Story of Machine Learning

I followed Elon Musk since 2017 and at that time, I added a special word to my vocabulary: “Machine Learning”. After 2 years from that time I was working at Harley-Davidson of Kathmandu and I again I watched the interview of Elon Musk. He said, “In today’s world and in future working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning skill would be greatly demanded and valued.” So, I started learning python basics from YouTube.

Further, the time passed on and COVID-19 pandemic struck the entire world. During lockdown, I joined the MBA at SOMTU and the classes started in online module. At the same time the man who I was following from 2017 became the richest person in the world and many more people started recognizing him. It reassured my thought, “you need to have a programing skills to progress in the future.” I then started a certified Coursera course from University of Michigan called “Python 3 specialization”.

I did the course and my programing skill got better and better. I always thought, “After I finish this specialization, I would begin a data science course”. But completing it took some time and at the right moment Skill lab presented us the SOMTU student with an opportunity to be associated with DataCamp as its learners. One word struck me the most “MACHINE LEARNING”, hearing that in the briefing I immediately decided to participate as a DataCamp learner.

The course I was thinking of doing for a year was right in front of me in the form of DataCamp. I learnt the basic concept of machine learning in the first course and realized you need to be a data scientist in order to work with machine learning and I also saw the handsome salary offered for data scientists. Luckily, there was a certification course available for data scientist in the course list of DataCamp. Being over confident (I had done python course previously and I had good statistics understanding) I jumped to take the data scientist exam.

At first I thought the exams were easy and I was positive about getting the certificate in first try. The first questions were objective questions from statistics. So, it was pretty easy for me. However, after that came the part of coding and I was unfamiliar with so many modules used in the questions despite my previous knowledge of python. So, I decided I needed to do the data scientist course in order to get certified and the track to data scientist contained 34 courses including projects. With no time to lose, “I started it.”

Finally, I would like to say that no word is enough to describe the benefits of Data Camp as it provides the opportunity to grow but one has to realize its importance and recognize its value.
